Carolina Wilga, a 26-year-old German tourist who vanished in Australia’s remote Outback, has been found alive today, July 11, 2025, after a harrowing 12-day search. Her discovery comes just one day after her abandoned van was located, intensifying efforts by authorities.

Wilga was last seen on June 29 in Beacon, Western Australia. Police confirmed she was found wandering on a forest trail late Friday by a member of the public. While in a ‘fragile’ state, she sustained no serious injuries and has been airlifted to a Perth hospital for treatment, according to Western Australia Police Force Insp. Martin Glynn.

Insp. Glynn described her survival as ‘remarkable’ given the ‘very hostile environment’ of the Outback, which includes challenging flora and fauna. The search focused on the vast 740,000-acre Karroun Hill Nature Reserve after her 1995 Mitsubishi van was spotted from a police helicopter 22 miles north of Beacon. Authorities believe her van became stuck in mud, leading her to become lost. This miraculous outcome concludes a desperate search that captivated public attention.
