Urgent Search Continues for German Backpacker Missing in Western Australia

Police in Western Australia are intensifying their urgent search for 26-year-old German backpacker Carolina Wilga, who has been missing for nearly two weeks. Wilga was last seen on June 29 at a general store in Beacon, Western Australia. Her van was discovered unattended more than 300 km northeast of Perth, near Karroun Hill, in the remote Wheatbelt region, appearing to have suffered mechanical issues.
Authorities have launched a widespread public appeal as the search continues across a vast and challenging area. Homicide squad detective senior sergeant Katharine Venn stated that while there’s currently no evidence of third-party involvement, all lines of inquiry are being rigorously pursued. Wilga’s phone has been switched off, and her family in Germany, with whom she maintained regular contact, has not heard from her, raising significant concerns about her welfare. Additional police forces have been deployed to the search zone as efforts to locate Carolina Wilga escalate.
