Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Friday the deployment of Justice Department agents to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities. This move aims to protect federal agents and property, with a directive to immediately arrest individuals engaged in federal crimes.

Bondi stated on X, “At my direction, I am deploying DOJ agents to ICE facilities—and wherever ICE comes under siege—to safeguard federal agents, protect federal property, and immediately arrest all individuals engaged in any federal crime.”

Furthermore, Bondi instructed Joint Terrorism Task Forces nationwide to investigate and disrupt entities involved in acts of domestic terrorism, specifically citing violence and obstruction against federal agents. The Department of Justice intends to pursue the most severe charges available against all participants in these “criminal mobs.”

This deployment follows a recent shooting at a Dallas ICE field office, which resulted in one detainee’s death and two critical injuries. This incident is one of at least four attacks or threats against ICE or Border Patrol locations in Texas this year. Federal agents from the DOJ have been assisting ICE since the Trump administration escalated immigration enforcement operations earlier this year. The administration has also mobilized National Guard troops to ICE facilities this summer. The announcement also comes amidst numerous protests at ICE facilities, including incidents involving Democratic lawmakers, mayoral arrests, and the use of tear gas against protesters in California and Illinois.
