Vatican Approves ‘God’s Influencer’ Carlo Acutis as First Millennial Saint, Proclamation Expected in 2025

The Vatican has officially approved Carlo Acutis, dubbed ‘God’s influencer’ and the ‘patron saint of the internet,’ for canonization, paving the way for him to become the Catholic Church’s first millennial saint. Pope Francis and a group of cardinals gave their final assent at a recent meeting in the Vatican, with the official proclamation expected later in 2025 during the church’s jubilee year.
Acutis, a teenage computer prodigy who died of leukemia at age 15 in 2006, gained posthumous fame for his pioneering use of the early internet to spread awareness of the Catholic faith. He meticulously cataloged Eucharistic miracles worldwide, creating websites that served as spiritual resources.
This approval marks the final step in a multiyear process, following the attribution of two healing miracles to his intercession. The first, recognized in 2020, involved the recovery of a Brazilian child in 2013. A second miracle was attributed to Acutis in May of this year, concerning the unexpected recovery of a Costa Rican girl from severe head trauma after her mother prayed at his tomb in Assisi.
Acutis’s life and work are seen as a modern example of holiness, demonstrating how contemporary technology can be used for spiritual good. His body, exhumed in 2019, remains on display in Assisi, dressed in casual attire, reflecting his youthful and relatable image.
