The more dramatic partial eclipse, as the moon enters Earth’s darker umbral shadow, commenced at 12:27 p.m. EDT (1627 GMT). The pinnacle of the event, ‘totality,’ during which the moon will be fully immersed in the deepest part of Earth’s shadow and display its vivid red hue, is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT (1730 GMT) and will last for approximately 82 minutes. Maximum eclipse is expected at 2:11 a.m. EDT (1811 GMT).
