The family of Katherine Ferruzzo, a Houston teenager who was among those missing after the devastating flash floods at Camp Mystic in the Texas Hill Country, has confirmed her remains were recovered on Friday, July 11, 2025.

Ferruzzo, a recent graduate of Memorial High School, had been accepted to The University of Texas at Austin and aspired to become a Special Education teacher. Her family released a statement expressing profound gratitude to the search and rescue professionals and volunteers, particularly the Texas Rangers, for their unwavering efforts.

The tragedy unfolded before dawn on July 4, when heavy tropical rains caused the Guadalupe River to swell by 26 feet in approximately 45 minutes. The rapid wall of water swept through areas including Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp near Hunt, where 27 individuals were initially reported missing.

In honor of Katherine and her compassion, the family is establishing The Katherine Ferruzzo Legacy Foundation. They have also extended their condolences to other families affected by the disaster and thanked the Houston and Camp Mystic communities for their support during this difficult time.
