Houston Man Arrested After 11-Year-Old Shot Dead in Doorbell Prank Incident

An 11-year-old boy was tragically shot and killed in Houston, Texas, on Saturday after participating in a common doorbell-ringing prank, police confirmed. The incident occurred as the boy and his friends were fleeing a residence in an Eastside neighborhood after ringing the doorbell.
Authorities reported that the boy sustained multiple gunshot wounds. While the identities of the victim and the homeowner have not been officially released, Houston police confirmed the arrest of a middle-aged man in connection with the shooting. Several weapons were reportedly recovered from the home.
Witnesses described seeing the boy ring the doorbell and then run from the property just moments before he was struck by gunfire. Houston homicide detective Michael Cass, speaking to CBS News affiliate KHOU, stated that a witness observed someone exiting the pranked house and firing shots at the children as they ran down the street. “Unfortunately, sadly enough, one of the boys, who was 11 years old, was shot in the back,” Cass added.
Neighbors told KPCR 2 that a man was later seen being escorted by police in handcuffs to the scene of the shooting. This tragic event highlights the dangerous consequences that have sometimes arisen from the ‘ding-dong ditch’ game, with previous incidents in other states leading to fatalities.
