The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has officially launched the new Qi2 25W wireless charging standard, promising significantly faster charging speeds for compatible devices. Certified just last week, this next-generation standard represents a substantial upgrade, boosting power output to 25 watts – nearly 70% more than the previous Qi2 standard.

Initially supported by iPhones, Android smartphones are now also adopting the Qi2 25W standard, ensuring broad compatibility across the market. The WPC emphasized that increased speed was the top request from users, and an unprecedented number of new Qi2 25W certified products are expected to hit the market soon, offering consumers a wide array of choices.

However, consumers eyeing the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup are advised to proceed with caution. Recent regulatory filings suggest Apple may introduce a proprietary 45W MagSafe charger with the iPhone 17, potentially offering speeds beyond the 25W maximum of the new Qi2 25W standard. This could mean that while Qi2 25W chargers will work with future iPhones, they might not deliver the absolute fastest charging available if Apple introduces an exclusive, higher-wattage option.
