A significant upgrade for Apple’s Vision Pro headset could be on the horizon, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reporting a new version might arrive as early as this year. The highly anticipated update is expected to feature Apple’s powerful M4 processor and a redesigned, more comfortable strap.

The current Vision Pro, launched in early 2024, still uses the M2 chip. The rumored M4 chip, already present in recent iPad Pros and Mac models, promises substantial performance gains. Benchmarks indicate the M4 offers approximately 50 percent better multicore CPU performance and 20-25 percent improved graphics compared to the M2. These enhancements are crucial for the Vision Pro’s demanding high-resolution visuals and low-latency requirements, potentially also improving the headset’s passthrough video feed.

Beyond processing power, Gurman’s report also highlights Apple’s focus on user comfort. New headbands are reportedly in development to alleviate neck strain and head pain, making the headset more wearable for extended periods. While these comfort improvements are significant, the overall design and weight of the device are expected to remain largely unchanged from the current 1.3-1.4 pound model. Pricing details for the updated Vision Pro were not mentioned in the report.
