Following yesterday’s announcement, Nintendo has released a comprehensive breakdown of new features coming to Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, set to launch on October 2, 2025. The highly anticipated collection will introduce significant enhancements, including expanded story content, a dedicated soundtrack mode, and amiibo functionality.

Players can look forward to enriched narrative experiences, with Super Mario Galaxy receiving a new chapter that continues its original Wii story. Super Mario Galaxy 2 will debut a completely new four-chapter picture book, promising fresh lore for fans. Music enthusiasts will appreciate the new Soundtrack Mode, offering access to 154 tracks from both games.

Accessibility is a key focus with the inclusion of an Assist Mode, which can be toggled on or off at any time. This mode boosts Mario’s health from three to six and allows him to return to his original position after falling off a stage. Local multiplayer also makes a return, enabling a second player to use a Joy-Con to hinder enemies and collect items.

For collectors, amiibo support has been confirmed, allowing players to scan select figures for helpful in-game items, complementing the new Super Mario Galaxy amiibo revealed yesterday. Crucially, Nintendo Switch 2 owners will benefit from 4K resolution support when docked, available via a free update. Standard Nintendo Switch players will experience the games at a maximum of 1080p.
