Fort Stewart, GA – An Army sergeant remains in pretrial confinement today following a shooting incident at Fort Stewart yesterday, August 6, that left five fellow soldiers wounded. Authorities confirmed that Sgt. Quornelius Radford, 28, allegedly used a personal handgun to injure his co-workers within the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area.

The incident, reported at 10:56 a.m. on Wednesday, saw Radford apprehended by 11:35 a.m., leading to the swift lifting of all lockdown measures. Brig. Gen. John Lubas, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, praised the “brave soldiers” who “immediately intervened” to tackle the suspect, crediting them with preventing further casualties.

All five victims are reported to be in stable condition and are expected to make a full recovery. Two of the injured were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah for treatment.

While the motive behind the shooting is still unclear, Army investigators have interviewed Radford, who is from Jacksonville, Florida. Brig. Gen. Lubas noted that Radford had a prior DUI arrest unknown to his chain of command before the shooting, but no prior behavioral or disciplinary issues were otherwise known. Both Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and President Donald Trump have issued statements, with Trump assuring that the “perpetrator of this atrocity” will be prosecuted “to the fullest extent of the law.” The Army Criminal Investigation Division is on site as the investigation continues.
