An animal handler at the Growler Pines Tiger Preserve in southeastern Oklahoma was killed by a tiger under his care on Saturday. The organization confirmed the tragic incident on Sunday, identifying the deceased as Ryan Easley.

In a statement released via its Facebook page, Growler Pines Tiger Preserve, located near Hugo, described Easley’s death as an “accident.” The preserve acknowledged the inherent risks of working with big cats, stating, “This tragedy is a painful reminder of both the beauty and unpredictability of the natural world.” The statement also highlighted Easley’s deep connection and love for the animals in his care.

As a result of the incident, all tours at the private facility, which offers visitors opportunities to view tigers and observe training demonstrations, have been canceled indefinitely.
