Russian glide bombs and ballistic missiles unleashed a wave of deadly overnight strikes across Ukraine, killing at least 22 people and hitting critical civilian infrastructure, including a prison and medical facilities. These attacks come as U.S. President Donald Trump issued a strict 10-12 day ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt the violence, setting an August 7-9 deadline for peace progress.

In Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhzhia region, four powerful Russian glide bombs struck a prison, resulting in the deaths of at least 17 inmates and wounding over 80 others. Concurrently, in the central Dnipro region, Russian missiles partially destroyed a three-story building and damaged nearby medical facilities, including a maternity hospital, killing at least four people, among them a 23-year-old pregnant woman.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the widespread assaults, stating that the 22 fatalities across 73 cities, towns, and villages were “conscious, deliberate strikes — not accidental.” Zelenskyy welcomed Trump’s accelerated timeline for peace, emphasizing the global need for an end to the conflict.

The Kremlin, however, quickly pushed back against Trump’s demands. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy head of the Security Council, warned against “playing the ultimatum game with Russia,” asserting that each such demand is a “threat and a step towards war.”

The Ukrainian air force reported intercepting 32 out of 37 Shahed-type strike drones launched by Russia overnight. The prison strike, at the Bilenkivska Correctional Facility, occurred precisely three years after a similar deadly incident at the Olenivka detention facility, which Ukraine and an internal UN analysis attributed to Russia.
