Times Square Shooting: Three Injured, Teen Suspect Detained After Overnight Violence

Three individuals were wounded in a shooting that erupted in Times Square early Saturday morning, New York City police have confirmed. The incident, which occurred on 44th Street near Seventh Avenue, involved two teenagers and a 65-year-old man.
A 17-year-old suspect is currently in police custody in connection with the shooting. Authorities state that no charges have been filed as of yet, as the investigation remains ongoing.
Witnesses reported that a brawl involving a group of hooded teenagers began inside the Raising Cane’s restaurant at the corner of 44th and 7th around 1:20 a.m. The altercation reportedly spilled outside, at which point gunshots were heard.
Victims include a 19-year-old male shot in the foot, an 18-year-old female who sustained a graze wound to the neck, and a third victim struck in the leg. All three were transported to a hospital and are reported to be in stable condition. Investigators believe the shooting followed an argument between the suspect and an older teenager, and a firearm was recovered from the scene. The relationship between the suspect and victims, if any, remains unclear.
The incident took place within Times Square, designated as one of New York’s ‘gun-free zones’ under a state law enacted in 2022. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this developing story.
