The summer movie season is concluding with a significant surge at the box office, led by two new releases that captivated audiences this past weekend. Warner Bros.’ twisty horror film, ‘Weapons,’ delivered a potent debut, securing the top spot with an impressive $42.5 million. Close behind, Disney’s body-swap comedy ‘Freakier Friday,’ a highly anticipated sequel featuring original stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, opened strong with $29 million.

These new hits displaced last weekend’s leader, Disney and Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four: The First Steps,’ which saw a steep decline, earning $15.5 million in its third weekend. Despite an initial $117.6 million opening, ‘Fantastic Four’ has now accumulated $230 million domestically. Other films making waves include Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s ‘The Bad Guys 2,’ which added $10.4 million in its second outing, and Paramount’s ‘The Naked Gun,’ bringing in $8.3 million, pushing its domestic total to $33 million.
