NASA and Google have officially unveiled a groundbreaking AI medical assistant, the Crew Medical Officer Digital Assistant (CMO-DA), designed to safeguard astronaut health during extended deep space missions, including future journeys to Mars. This cutting-edge tool allows astronauts to autonomously diagnose and treat medical conditions, a critical capability when communication with Earth is delayed or impossible.

Developed in collaboration with Google Cloud and leveraging its Vertex AI platform, CMO-DA is a multimodal system that interacts with astronauts via speech, text, and images.
