The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has officially announced the launch of its faster Qi2 25W wireless charging standard, marking a significant upgrade from the previous 15W limit. This new standard promises nearly 70% more power, with the first wave of certified devices already available and hundreds more expected to follow.

A major development is the confirmed support for iPhones, with speculation that the iPhone 16 series could receive an update to enable these speeds, and the upcoming iPhone 17 models are anticipated to feature native 25W Qi2 support. Furthermore, the WPC stated that several “major Android smartphones” will finally integrate into the Qi2 ecosystem with this launch, addressing a long-standing gap in widespread Android adoption beyond the singular HMD Skyline.

While some recent flagships like Samsung’s Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are certified “Qi2 Ready” (supporting 15W without an integrated magnetic ring), the full 25W Qi2 experience, based partly on Apple’s MagSafe design, requires the magnetic alignment for optimal performance. The WPC emphasizes the unprecedented momentum and the high volume of devices entering the certification queue, indicating a rapid expansion of compatible products.
