T-Mobile has officially launched its Starlink-powered satellite service, dubbed “T-Satellite,” making it available to individuals across the US, not just existing T-Mobile customers. The announcement, made by CEO Mike Sievert, confirms the service is now out of its beta phase.

Initially, T-Satellite provides essential text messaging capabilities, including access to 911, and location-sharing. The service also supports sending pictures on most Android phones, with more device compatibility expected soon. Users can automatically connect to T-Satellite in areas lacking traditional cellular coverage, provided there’s a clear view of the sky.

The service is offered as a standalone subscription, priced at an introductory $10 per month for a limited time, increasing to $15 monthly thereafter. It’s also included for customers on T-Mobile’s $100 per month Experience Beyond plan or older Go5G plans.

Looking ahead, T-Mobile plans to expand T-Satellite’s functionality to include voice messages and connectivity for “satellite-optimized” applications like AllTrails, Accuweather, and WhatsApp. The service currently leverages over 650 Starlink satellites, covering the continental US, Hawaii, parts of southern Alaska, and Puerto Rico, with future plans for international coverage.

To utilize T-Satellite, users need an unlocked device supporting eSIMs and satellite connectivity. Over 60 different phone models are currently compatible, including iPhone 13 and newer, Google Pixel 9, and Samsung Galaxy S21 and newer. This broader device support and planned feature expansion differentiate T-Mobile’s offering from competing satellite services by Apple, Google, Verizon, and AT&T.
