Apple Unveils Apple Watch Ultra 3: Bigger, Brighter Display, Satellite Messaging, and 5G

Apple has officially unveiled its third-generation Apple Watch Ultra today, showcasing a significantly larger and brighter display, alongside enhanced connectivity options. The announcement came during Apple’s highly anticipated “Awe dropping” event, which also featured the debut of new iPhone 17 models, Apple Watch Series 11, and AirPods Pro 3.
The new Apple Watch Ultra 3 boasts an impressive resolution of 422 x 514 pixels, a notable increase over the Ultra 2’s 410 x 502 panel. This enhancement comes from meticulously trimmed bezels, expanding the viewing area without altering the device’s overall footprint, making it the largest Apple Watch display to date.
Beyond its increased size, the Ultra 3’s display technology has been significantly upgraded. It now incorporates an LPTO3 OLED always-on Retina display, mirroring the advanced panel introduced with last year’s Apple Watch Series 10. This upgrade provides a faster refresh rate in always-on mode, enabling watch faces to display a continuously ticking seconds hand with greater fluidity. Furthermore, the Ultra 3 inherits the wide-angle OLED technology first seen in the Series 10, delivering up to 40% more brightness when viewed off-axis, significantly improving visibility from various angles.
Confirming earlier speculation, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 also integrates cutting-edge satellite messaging capabilities and high-speed 5G connectivity, enhancing safety and communication for users in remote areas. This marks a significant hardware refresh for the Ultra line, which had not seen major upgrades since 2023, beyond last year’s black titanium case option for the Ultra 2.
