In a significant development in the investigation into Matthew Perry’s 2023 overdose death, Dr. Salvador Plasencia pleaded guilty on Wednesday to four counts of distributing ketamine to the late ‘Friends’ actor. This marks the fourth conviction in connection with Perry’s passing, which was attributed to the acute effects of ketamine.

Dr. Plasencia, who operated an urgent care clinic, expressed profound remorse through his attorney, Karen Goldstein, stating he is “fully accepting responsibility by pleading guilty to drug distribution.” He intends to voluntarily surrender his medical license, acknowledging his failure to protect a patient vulnerable due to addiction.

While Plasencia was not the direct provider of the ketamine that caused Perry’s death, his plea agreement details that he distributed 20 vials of ketamine, lozenges, and syringes to Perry and his assistant between late September and early October 2023. This included instances where he administered the drug and left supplies for Perry’s assistant to use. Prosecutors noted text messages where Plasencia discussed how much to charge Perry, referring to him as a “moron” and speculating on payment amounts.

Plasencia’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 3, where he faces a maximum of 10 years in federal prison for each count. Other individuals involved in the case, including Dr. Mark Chavez and Kenneth Iwamasa, have also pleaded guilty, while alleged co-conspirator Jasveen Sangha, dubbed “The Ketamine Queen,” has pleaded not guilty and is set to go to trial in August.
