New speculation surrounding Apple’s anticipated iPhone Fold suggests the device could launch with a more accessible price point than initially projected, alongside an ultra-thin design. While the iPhone 17 series is set to dominate this fall, attention is already turning to the foldable iPhone rumored for next year.

According to a recent UBS report summarized by Fortune, the iPhone Fold’s pricing could be more competitive. Earlier predictions from analysts like Ming Chi-Kuo placed the foldable iPhone at over $2,000, potentially reaching $2,500. However, UBS’s analysis indicates Apple’s cost efficiency, particularly in memory, processors, and camera modules, could allow for a starting price as low as $1,800. This revised estimate suggests a potential bill of materials (BOM) cost of $759, slightly below Samsung’s Z Fold SE, and could yield healthy contribution margins for Apple.

Furthermore, new leaks corroborate earlier claims regarding the iPhone Fold’s design. Weibo leaker Instant Digital supports Ming Chi-Kuo’s previous report that the device will be remarkably thin. When unfolded, the iPhone Fold is now rumored to measure 4.8mm, which would make it Apple’s thinnest product to date, surpassing the 5.1mm M4 iPad Pro. While still potentially thicker than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 when folded, this ultra-thin profile could be a significant design advantage for Apple’s entry into the foldable market.
