Ukraine announced a successful strike on a Russian air base in the Voronezh region on Saturday, as Russia continued its intensified aerial bombardment across Ukrainian territory. The Ukrainian military’s General Staff reported hitting the Borisoglebsk air base, which houses Russian Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-30SM fighter jets, targeting a depot believed to contain glide bombs and other aircraft. Russian officials have not yet commented on the alleged attack.

The strike follows a massive overnight assault by Russia, which launched 322 drones and decoys into Ukraine. Ukraine’s air force stated it shot down 157, with another 135 likely lost due to electronic jamming. While the western Khmelnytskyi region was a primary target, no damage or casualties were reported there. However, Kyiv bore the brunt of a separate attack on Friday, with Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirming two fatalities and 31 injuries, marking the largest aerial assault on the capital since Russia’s full-scale invasion began.

These escalating attacks coincide with a recent phone call between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump. Discussions focused on bolstering Ukraine’s air defenses and potential joint weapons production. The call occurred as the U.S. has paused some military aid shipments to Kyiv, prompting Ukraine to explore strengthening its domestic arms industry.

Concurrently, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted 94 Ukrainian drones overnight into Saturday, with an additional 45 shot down later in the day. Local officials in Saratov reported damage to 25 apartments in Engels from Ukrainian drones. Four Ukrainian drones were also downed near Moscow, briefly disrupting air traffic at Sheremetyevo airport.
