As of September 27, 2025, the eligibility window for Amazon Prime refunds, stemming from a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), has officially closed. The settlement, which addressed allegations of Amazon using ‘sophisticated subscription traps’ to enroll customers and making cancellations difficult, allowed individuals who signed up or unsuccessfully attempted to cancel Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, to be eligible for a refund.

While automatic refunds for certain customers were initiated within 90 days of the FTC order, the broader claims process, including notifications and the opening of a dedicated claims website, would have unfolded over the subsequent months. Customers who received claim forms had up to 180 days to submit them. By now, most, if not all, of these processes are likely concluded or in their final stages, meaning the opportunity to initiate a new claim has passed.

The historic settlement aimed to return up to $1.5 billion directly to an estimated 35 million affected customers, with individual refunds capped at $51. While Amazon maintained it has always followed the law, the FTC’s action marked its largest-ever settlement and the second-highest refund award in history, highlighting the significant impact of deceptive enrollment practices.
