Massive Russian Missile and Drone Attack Kills Two, Injures Dozens Across Ukraine

Ukraine endured a large-scale overnight assault from Russia on September 20, involving a barrage of missiles and drones that killed at least two people and injured 27 across multiple cities. The attack, which activated air raid alerts nationwide, saw explosions reported in Dnipro, Pavlohrad, Mykolaiv, and Khmelnytskyi, among other locations.
Ukrainian air defense forces reported intercepting a significant number of projectiles, downing 552 drones, 2 ballistic missiles, and 29 cruise missiles out of 579 drones, 8 ballistic missiles, and 32 cruise missiles launched by Russia. Despite these efforts, direct strikes caused extensive damage to residential buildings, homes, and infrastructure.
In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Governor Serhii Lysak confirmed one fatality and 26 injuries, with 14 requiring hospitalization, including a critically burned 55-year-old man. Another fatality was reported in Khmelnytskyi, where a man in his 50s was found dead after a fire. Damage was also reported in Kyiv Oblast, affecting homes, garages, and vehicles in Bucha, Boryspil, and Obukhiv.
The aggression prompted an international response, with Poland’s Air Force scrambling NATO fighter jets to protect its airspace. This incident follows recent Russian airspace violations over Poland and Estonia, leading Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal to request consultations under NATO’s Article 4, highlighting escalating regional tensions.
