Israel Confirms Houthi Leadership in Disarray After Precision Strike, New Attacks Launched

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz declared Tuesday that the remaining Houthi leadership is fleeing Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, following a decisive Israeli strike last week that eliminated the terror group’s prime minister and other senior officials. Katz posted on X that the leaders, like those of other extremist groups, abandon their residents, adding, “We knew how to hunt them this time, and we will know how to do so in the future as well.”
The August 28 strike, which killed Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and other top officials during a meeting in Sanaa, has reportedly plunged the remaining leadership into an “unprecedented state of confusion and panic.” Senior Houthi figures are said to have fled Sanaa for rural areas, with their families moved to secure locations, and orders issued to avoid government buildings and public gatherings due to fears of further Israeli targeting.
Details emerging Tuesday revealed the extensive intelligence operation behind the precision airstrike. Around 200 intelligence personnel from elite IDF units, including 8200, 9900, and 504, worked for weeks in a secret bunker in central Israel to gather critical intelligence on the Iran-backed group. Representatives from the US Central Command were also reportedly involved. The operation precisely identified the timing and location of the secretive security meeting in a residential villa, with plans swiftly approved by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and political leadership.
Amidst the fallout, the Houthis announced new attacks on Tuesday, claiming to have struck a ship in the northern Red Sea with drones and a missile due to its alleged connection to Israel. This follows a Sunday claim of an attack on the Israeli-owned tanker Scarlet Ray. The group also stated they launched four drones toward Israel, including Tel Aviv, on Tuesday, though the IDF confirmed intercepting an unmanned aerial vehicle from Yemen before it entered Israeli territory. Two Houthi missiles fired early Tuesday reportedly disintegrated over Saudi Arabia.
Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi, a key IDF target, vowed in a Sunday televised speech to continue and escalate attacks on Israel, asserting that the recent strikes would not weaken the group.
