A small plane crash in northern Wyoming’s Bighorn National Forest has tragically claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl and left three of her relatives with serious injuries. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials are now on site, actively investigating the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the single-engine aircraft went down west of Big Mountain. The Sheridan Law Enforcement Center first received reports of lost or injured individuals in the area on Monday at approximately 4:57 p.m., quickly escalating to reports of a possible plane crash.

Sheridan County Sheriff’s Deputies, Sheridan Area Search and Rescue (SASAR), and Wyoming Regional EMS (WREMS) swiftly responded. Rescue teams located the wreckage, confirming the death of the 13-year-old girl and finding three surviving passengers – an 11-year-old male, a 54-year-old male, and a 53-year-old female, all from the same family – with serious injuries.

A Wyoming Army National Guard helicopter was dispatched for hoist operations to transport the injured to two separate hospitals, where their current conditions remain unknown. The deceased girl’s body has been transferred to the Sheridan County Coroner and will be identified publicly later.

Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez praised the coordinated rescue effort, acknowledging the scene remains fluid. He extended thoughts and prayers to the victims and their family. The sheriff’s office has urged the public to avoid the crash area as the investigation continues.
