At least 25 individuals seeking humanitarian aid in Gaza were killed on Wednesday by Israeli gunfire, according to health officials and witnesses. The incident occurred as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated his stance on the ‘voluntary migration’ of Palestinians from the war-torn territory, a policy critics liken to ethnic cleansing.

The fatalities were reported by staff at Nasser and Awda hospitals, with victims reportedly shot en route to aid distribution sites or while awaiting convoys. Netanyahu, in an interview aired Tuesday with i24, discussed plans for an offensive in Gaza City, stating, ‘We are not pushing them out but allowing them to leave.’

Meanwhile, efforts to revive ceasefire negotiations have resumed, following a breakdown last month. Hamas and Egyptian officials met in Cairo on Wednesday. However, Netanyahu’s office confirmed Israel has no immediate plans to send its negotiating team to these talks.

Israel’s proposed expansion of its military offensive into new areas of Gaza has drawn widespread condemnation, both domestically and internationally. This move is seen by some as a tactic to pressure Hamas, which continues to hold an estimated 50 hostages from the October 7, 2023 attack, with approximately 20 believed to be alive. Families of the hostages express grave concerns that a new offensive could jeopardize their safety.
