Apple Accelerates Siri AI Revamp with Internal ‘Veritas’ Chatbot, Google Gemini Partnership Looms

Apple is reportedly intensifying its internal AI development efforts, utilizing a sophisticated chatbot named ‘Veritas’ to test and refine upcoming Siri upgrades. This move comes as the tech giant grapples with challenges in the competitive AI landscape, including previous delays for the next-generation Siri and a lukewarm reception for Apple Intelligence.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, ‘Veritas’ functions similarly to leading AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini, allowing Apple employees to conduct back-and-forth conversations, issue requests, and revisit past interactions. This internal tool is crucial for rapidly developing and gathering feedback on new Siri features, such as the ability to search personal data and perform in-app actions like photo editing.

Despite its advanced capabilities, there are currently no plans to release ‘Veritas’ to consumers, a decision Gurman suggests could be a misstep. Instead, it appears increasingly likely that Apple will lean on Google’s Gemini for its consumer-facing AI-powered search functionalities, highlighting the intricate strategies Apple is employing in its bid to catch up in the AI race.
