A Washington, D.C., man is facing federal charges after allegedly throwing a sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent this past Sunday, August 10, 2025. The incident, which reportedly occurred near 14th Street in Northwest Washington, has led to Sean Charles Dunn being charged with assaulting a federal officer.

According to the criminal complaint, Dunn confronted the CBP agent and a Metro Transit Police officer around 11 p.m., shouting expletives and questioning their presence. After a verbal exchange, he allegedly threw a sub-style sandwich, striking the CBP officer in the chest. Video footage of the confrontation reportedly exists, and Dunn was apprehended after attempting to flee, later admitting to the act.

This incident unfolds amidst escalating tensions in the District regarding federal law enforcement presence. President Donald Trump recently declared a public safety emergency in D.C., deploying National Guard troops and placing the Metropolitan Police Department under partial federal oversight for 30 days, citing rising crime. However, local officials, including District Council member Brooke Pinto and DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb, have expressed concerns, noting that violent crime statistics show a decrease in the city.

Dunn has not yet entered a plea, and no attorney is currently listed for his defense in court records.
