President Donald J. Trump’s defamation lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and its influential owner, Rupert Murdoch, has taken a dramatic personal turn. In a recent filing, Trump’s legal team is pushing for an expedited deposition from Murdoch himself, citing the 94-year-old media mogul’s advanced age and health concerns.

The lawsuit centers on a Wall Street Journal report claiming Trump sent a racy birthday greeting to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. Trump asserts he personally warned Murdoch that the alleged greeting was fake and did not exist, yet the Journal proceeded with its publication.

Trump’s attorneys are now asking a federal judge in Miami to compel Murdoch to answer questions under oath within 15 days of a court order. The filing argues that Murdoch’s age and health issues, including reported health scares, make it unlikely he would be available for in-person testimony at a later trial. The judge has ordered Murdoch to respond to this unusual demand by the end of Monday.

Legal observers note the aggressive tactic, with one former News Corp. executive describing it as “classic Trump” and a “gratuitous attempt to poke the bear.” This move highlights the fractured relationship between two titans of the American right, who have known each other for decades but whose alliance has recently frayed.
