India Overtakes China as Leading Smartphone Exporter to US Market

India has emerged as the top exporter of smartphones to the United States, surpassing China, according to a new report from research firm Canalys. This significant shift underscores a broader realignment in global manufacturing supply chains, driven by ongoing tariff uncertainties and geopolitical tensions.
During the second quarter of the year, smartphones assembled in India constituted a dominant 44% of all U.S. smartphone imports, a substantial increase from just 13% recorded in the same period last year. Canalys data further reveals that the total volume of Indian-made smartphones shipped to the U.S. soared by an impressive 240% year-over-year.
Conversely, China’s share of smartphone exports to the U.S. plummeted to 25% in the quarter ending June, a sharp decline from 61% a year prior. Vietnam also outpaced China in this quarter, contributing 30% of the U.S.’s smartphone imports, highlighting a diversified shift in sourcing away from Beijing.
