Suspect Identified in Deadly Midtown Manhattan Shooting; Motive Under Investigation

Authorities have identified Shane Devon Tamura, 27, as the suspect in Monday night’s fatal shooting at a Midtown Manhattan office building. The rampage left four people dead, including an NYPD officer, and seriously injured another individual. Tamura reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that Tamura, who recently drove from Las Vegas to New York, had a “documented mental health history.” Investigators discovered additional ammunition, a revolver, a backpack, and medication inside his vehicle. His journey was traced from Las Vegas, through Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and New Jersey, before he entered New York City on Monday afternoon, July 28, 2025.
The incident unfolded when Tamura, reportedly wearing body armor and armed with a high-powered rifle, entered 345 Park Avenue and opened fire. He then proceeded to the 33rd floor, where he shot and killed an additional victim at the offices of real estate management firm Rudin Management. Police are actively investigating why Tamura targeted this specific location and if he had any connection to the company.
Records show Tamura had recently resided in Las Vegas, where he possessed a concealed firearms permit. He also previously held an expired work card from the Nevada Private Investigators Licensing Board. Despite official reports of mental health history, a former high school classmate described Tamura as a “goofball” and recalled no such issues. Las Vegas Metro Police have converged on a gated community believed to be Tamura’s last known address.
The motive behind the deadly attack remains the subject of an ongoing and intensive investigation.
