President Donald Trump has issued a stark ‘last warning’ to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of all remaining hostages held in Gaza. This ultimatum comes as the White House confirmed, for the first time, that the United States is engaged in direct talks with the militant group to secure the captives’ freedom.

In a forceful post on Truth Social, President Trump stated he is providing Israel with “everything it needs to finish the job,” vowing “hell to pay” if the hostages are not released and the bodies of those murdered are not returned. He also urged Hamas leadership to leave Gaza while they still have a chance and issued a broader threat to the people of Gaza, linking their future to the release of hostages.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the unprecedented direct engagement, noting that Israel had been consulted prior to the talks. Special envoy for hostages, Adam Boehler, is leading these “good faith efforts” aimed at prioritizing American interests.

A Palestinian source revealed to the BBC that two direct meetings between Hamas and a US official have already occurred in Qatar, following several prior communications. These discussions reportedly aim to secure the release of five US citizens among the remaining 59 hostages, along with a broader deal to end the conflict sparked by Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem criticized Trump’s threats, asserting they complicate the ongoing ceasefire agreement and encourage Israel to disregard its terms. Despite these tensions, Washington’s direct engagement marks a significant shift from its longstanding policy against contact with groups designated as terrorist organizations.
