Tyler Robinson Set for Court Appearance Today Amidst Confirmed Discord Confession in Charlie Kirk Murder

Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, is expected to make his first court appearance this afternoon. This development follows a confirmation yesterday from a Discord spokesperson that Robinson appeared to confess to the killing on the chat platform just hours before his arrest.
Messages allegedly from Robinson’s account, first reported by The Washington Post, read: “Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. im sorry for all of this.” This alleged confession came towards the end of a nearly two-day manhunt for Kirk’s killer.
Kirk was tragically shot during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University last Wednesday. Following the incident, FBI Director Kash Patel released surveillance photos of the suspect, prompting a nationwide search. Robinson was ultimately taken into custody late last Thursday night after his father reportedly confronted him after recognizing him in the FBI images.
Law enforcement sources indicate that Robinson initially resisted turning himself in, expressing suicidal ideation, before his father contacted a youth pastor who also alerted U.S. Marshals. During the manhunt, Robinson and friends reportedly discussed the shooting in a Discord group, with Robinson appearing to acknowledge the accusations and even joking about having a “manifesto and exact copy rifle.”
Before his arrest, messages from Robinson’s account also suggested he planned to surrender, stating, “im surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments, thanks for all the good times and laughs, you’ve all been so amazing, thank you all for everything.”
Robinson faces aggravated murder, obstruction, and firearm charges. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has stated that the state will seek the death penalty in this high-profile case, which has drawn national attention and ignited concerns over political violence.
