WASHINGTON — Vice President JD Vance on Monday delivered a powerful message against political violence, declaring national unity impossible with those who celebrated the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Hosting “The Charlie Kirk Show” from his ceremonial office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Vance asserted the Trump administration’s commitment to dismantle networks promoting such violence.

Speaking just days after Kirk was fatally shot last Wednesday, Vance, who transported Kirk’s body aboard Air Force Two, expressed his desperation for national unity while simultaneously acknowledging the difficult truth that common ground cannot be found with those who condone political violence. “I’m desperate for our country to be united in condemnation of the actions and the ideas that killed my friend,” Vance stated on the program, which was livestreamed in the White House press briefing room and featured several administration officials.

The vice president also criticized what he described as lies about Kirk that he believed contributed to the killing, promising federal action to prevent future acts of violence motivated by speech. Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff, echoed this sentiment, stating, “With God as my witness, we’re going to use every resource we have at the Department of Justice, Homeland Security and throughout this government to identify, disrupt, dismantle and destroy these networks… and we will do it in Charlie’s name.”

Vance’s impromptu hosting role and the White House complex broadcast underscored Kirk’s close relationship with the Trump-Vance team and his significant influence in mobilizing youth voters through Turning Point USA. Kirk, a close friend and advocate for Vance’s vice-presidential selection, was described by his widow Erika, in Vance’s retelling, as a kind and loving husband.

Law enforcement officials currently believe the suspect accused of killing Kirk acted alone. The administration’s strong rhetoric signals a firm stance against political extremism in the wake of the high-profile assassination.
