Apple Extends Free Satellite Features for iPhone 14, 15 Users Amid New Device Launches

Apple has announced an extension of free satellite connectivity features for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users, a detail revealed in footnotes accompanying the newly unveiled iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. This latest extension grants eligible users another year of complimentary access to vital satellite services.
According to Apple, the free trial period will be prolonged for iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 owners who activated their devices in supported regions prior to 12 a.m. PT on September 9, 2025. This pushes the potential payment deadline for earliest adopters to November 2026, building on previous extensions since the Emergency SOS via Satellite service first launched in November 2022.
The announcement comes as part of a significant day for Apple, which also saw the unveiling of the new Apple Watch Ultra 3, featuring its own satellite connectivity capabilities. Last year’s iOS 18 update had already expanded satellite messaging to include non-emergency communication with friends and family when off-grid.
