The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has announced a significant victory against the notorious Sinaloa drug cartel, arresting 617 individuals and seizing vast quantities of illicit drugs and assets during a weeklong operation that concluded on August 29, 2025.

The coordinated enforcement actions, spanning 23 domestic field divisions and seven foreign regions, were specifically aimed at crippling one of the world’s most violent and powerful drug cartels. The DEA highlighted the cartel’s role in flooding the United States with deadly substances including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin.

During the operation, authorities confiscated 480 kilograms of fentanyl powder, 714,707 counterfeit pills, 2,209 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 7,469 kilograms of cocaine. Additionally, 420 firearms were seized, alongside currency and assets valued at nearly $13 million.

DEA Administrator Terrance Cole underscored the agency’s commitment, stating, “Every kilogram of poison seized, every dollar stripped from the cartels, and every arrest we make represents lives saved and communities defended. DEA will not relent until the Sinaloa Cartel is dismantled from top to bottom.”

The Sinaloa Cartel, designated a foreign terrorist organization in February by the Trump administration, continues to pose a significant threat to U.S. public safety, health, and national security. Special Agent in Charge Brian M. Clark of the Los Angeles Field Division emphasized that while these numbers reflect a snapshot, the DEA’s efforts against the cartel are relentless and year-round, targeting its vast network operating in at least 40 countries.
