Microsoft has released the optional KB5062660 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2, bringing a host of new features and significant improvements. This July 2025 preview update introduces key elements of the ‘Windows Resiliency Initiative’ designed to enhance system stability and recovery, alongside advancements in AI-powered tools and user interface refinements.

Among the most notable additions is the ‘Quick Machine Recovery’ tool, which automatically detects and fixes widespread issues on Windows 11 devices using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), minimizing downtime. The update also streamlines the unexpected restart screen, now featuring a modern black background for a more readable and consistent visual experience.

Productivity receives a boost with new ‘Click to Do’ actions, including ‘Practice in Reading Coach’ and ‘Read with Immersive Reader’ for enhanced reading experiences. Users with Microsoft 365 Copilot can now leverage ‘Draft with Copilot in Word’ to quickly turn any recognized text into a full draft. Copilot+ PC users will benefit from a new AI agent in Settings, designed to simplify finding and changing system configurations through natural language requests.

Further enhancements include new export and reset options for the ‘Recall’ feature (with specific updates for the European Economic Area), improved Snap layout learning with inline messages, and a unified ‘Windows Search’ settings page for easier management. Gamers will appreciate the new ‘Gamepad layout’ for the touch keyboard, offering enhanced navigation and PIN sign-in support.

The update also addresses several critical bugs, including an issue affecting the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) during machine password changes, File Explorer Home display problems, and performance slowdowns when syncing SharePoint sites. Installation is optional and can be done via Windows Update by checking for updates, or manually downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
