Microsoft Reveals New Surface Laptop 5G with Intel Core Ultra Series 2 and Copilot Plus AI

Microsoft has officially unveiled a new 5G-enabled variant of its Surface Laptop, set to begin shipping on August 26th with a starting price of $1,799.99. This latest iteration is powered by Intel’s cutting-edge Core Ultra Series 2 processors, which include a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to facilitate access to Microsoft’s advanced Copilot Plus AI features.
While sharing many similarities with the existing 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7 model, the Surface Laptop 5G incorporates significant internal modifications to integrate a 5G modem. It supports both a physical nano SIM slot, conveniently located beside the Surface Connect charging port, and eSIMs, ensuring constant connectivity on the go. The base configuration includes an Intel Core Ultra 5, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. A premium model, priced at $2,699, features an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage, all available in the signature Surface platinum silver color.
Microsoft emphasizes that the 5G integration is more than just adding a modem. The device boasts a sophisticated dynamic antenna system, featuring six antennas that intelligently adapt to the user’s environment and how the laptop is being held. Nancie Gaskill, General Manager of the Surface business, explained that this required the development of a unique multi-layered laminate material that allows radio signals to pass through without compromising durability or design. The company has rigorously tested its 5G hardware with over 100 mobile operators across more than 50 countries, ensuring reliable performance. This new Surface Laptop 5G is primarily aimed at business users, who will also gain access to the latest 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro models starting today.
