A Delta Air Lines pilot was forced to execute an immediate and ‘aggressive’ evasive maneuver to prevent a potential mid-air collision with a U.S. military jet, according to recent reports. The incident, which occurred on Friday, saw SkyWest Flight 3788, a regional jet en route from Minneapolis to Minot, North Dakota, encounter another aircraft identified by the pilot as a B-52 bomber.

Audio recordings widely shared on social media capture the pilot explaining the harrowing experience to passengers, stating the other aircraft was ‘kind of, sort of coming at us’ and apologizing for the abrupt maneuver. Despite being cleared for approach, the pilot performed a go-around after spotting the fast-approaching military jet, deciding to turn behind it to avoid a converging course.

The aircraft landed safely, and SkyWest Airlines has confirmed the incident is under investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration will not be submitting a report as the control tower involved was not an FAA facility. The pilot’s composure and decisive action, which passengers applauded, are credited with preventing a potentially catastrophic outcome.
