Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has ignited a political firestorm by calling for the prosecution of former Obama administration officials, alleging a wide-ranging conspiracy to “manufacture” intelligence regarding Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Gabbard, a former Democratic lawmaker now serving in President Donald Trump’s administration, announced Friday that she has declassified documents purportedly revealing “overwhelming evidence” that Obama and national security officials “manufactured and politicized intelligence to lay the groundwork for what was essentially a years-long coup against President Trump.” She asserts that the Obama administration’s goal was to “usurp President Trump and subvert the will of the American people,” demanding that all involved be investigated and prosecuted “to the fullest extent of the law.”

The DNI confirmed that these declassified documents will be immediately turned over to the Department of Justice for criminal referral. These explosive allegations surface amidst renewed scrutiny on President Trump’s past associations.

The claims directly contradict years of findings by multiple investigations, including the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment and the Senate Intelligence Committee, which unanimously concluded that Russia actively meddled in the 2016 election to bolster Trump’s campaign. Senator Mark Warner (D-VA), ranking member on the Senate Intelligence Committee, sharply criticized Gabbard’s claims, stating, “If there had been some Obama conspiracy, we would have found it. This latest lie is another sad, dangerous example of Tulsi Gabbard trying to rewrite history and erode trust in the intelligence community.”

The FBI is reportedly investigating former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey, both named in the documents cited by Gabbard, according to CNN reports from earlier this month.
