17-Year-Old Charged with Murder in Fatal Maine Paddleboarder Attack
A 17-year-old male has been formally charged with murder in connection with the death of 48-year-old paddleboarder Sunshine Stewart, whose body was discovered this month in Crawford Pond, Union, Maine. Authorities confirmed Friday that Deven Young of Frankfort, Maine, was taken into custody earlier this week and made his initial court appearance on Friday, where he entered a denial to the charge.
The tragic incident, which has sent shockwaves through the close-knit community, involved Stewart, a St. George resident, who was last seen paddleboarding on Crawford Pond on July 2. A medical examiner determined her cause of death to be strangulation and blunt force trauma.
