Yemeni forces allied with the exiled government declared yesterday, Wednesday, a significant victory against Houthi rebels, announcing the seizure of 750 tons of Iranian-supplied missiles and weaponry. The National Resistance Force, a key faction supporting Tariq Saleh, stated that the massive interdiction, which reportedly occurred in late June, targeted a shipment destined for the Houthi rebels who have controlled Yemen’s capital since 2014.

This marks the first major interdiction by the National Resistance Force, with released video appearing to show anti-ship missiles—similar to those used in recent Red Sea attacks that sank two vessels and caused fatalities—as well as Iranian-made Type 358 anti-aircraft missiles and drone components. The U.S. military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) lauded the seizure, with General Michael Erik Kurilla emphasizing that the discovery of Farsi manuals and systems from an Iranian Ministry of Defense-affiliated company underscores Iran’s role as a destabilizing force in the region. He stressed the importance of limiting Iranian support to the Houthis for regional security and freedom of navigation.

The interception comes amidst a decade-long conflict in Yemen, where the Houthis have been attacking Red Sea shipping in response to the Israel-Hamas war. Despite Iran’s denials of arming the rebels, this latest seizure, along with previous interdictions by Western naval forces, highlights persistent violations of a United Nations arms embargo. The ongoing conflict has resulted in one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with over 150,000 casualties.
