A small plane crashed at London Southend Airport yesterday afternoon, prompting a significant emergency response. Essex Police confirmed they were alerted to the ‘serious incident’ just before 4 p.m. local time on Sunday at the airport, located approximately 45 miles east of the capital.

Images circulating on social media depict a plume of fire and black smoke emanating from the crash site. The aircraft involved is reported to be 39 feet in length. Authorities have not yet disclosed details regarding the plane’s destination or the number of individuals on board.

Essex Police stated that work with all emergency services at the scene is ongoing and expected to continue for several hours. David Burton-Sampson, the local Member of Parliament, urged the public to stay clear of the area to allow emergency personnel to perform their duties, adding, ‘My thoughts are with everyone involved.’
