Ukraine Eliminates Suspected Russian Agents in Kyiv After SBU Officer’s Assassination

KYIV, Ukraine – Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) announced today, Sunday, July 13, 2025, that it has successfully tracked down and eliminated Russian agents suspected of assassinating one of its senior officers in the Ukrainian capital. The SBU stated that the alleged Russian operatives were killed in the Kyiv region after reportedly resisting arrest. The agency released a video showing two bodies on the ground.

The SBU had previously identified a man and a woman as being involved in Thursday’s brazen daylight attack on Colonel Ivan Voronych, an SBU officer, which was captured on surveillance cameras. Media reports indicate that Voronych was involved in covert operations in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories and allegedly helped organize Ukraine’s surprise incursion into Russia’s Kursk region last year.

This significant development comes amidst ongoing hostilities. Following a series of large-scale attacks, Russia launched 60 drones overnight across Ukraine, with the Ukrainian air force reporting 20 shot down and 20 others jammed. Furthermore, Ukrainian authorities have confirmed four civilian deaths and 13 injuries in Russian attacks on the Donetsk and Kherson regions since Saturday.
