German Backpacker Miraculously Rescued After 11 Nights Lost in Australian Outback

A 26-year-old German backpacker, Carolina Wilga, has been miraculously rescued after surviving 11 harrowing nights lost in the remote Western Australian outback. Ms. Wilga, who suffered from exhaustion, severe dehydration, extensive insect bites, and an injured foot, was airlifted to a Perth hospital on Friday following her discovery.
Police reported that Ms. Wilga endured the harsh elements by drinking water from puddles and rain, consuming minimal food supplies, and sheltering in a cave. She had walked an astonishing 24km (15 miles) from her van, which became bogged and mechanically unsound in dense bushland north of Beacon, after she became disoriented.
Her rescue was described as “sheer luck” by acting police inspector Jessica Securo. Tania Henley, a passing driver, spotted Ms. Wilga waving for help by the roadside in a “fragile state” and immediately alerted authorities. Ms. Henley expressed disbelief at the backpacker’s survival, noting she had no shoes and had wrapped her injured foot.
Ms. Wilga was last seen on June 29 at a general store in Beacon. Her abandoned van was located by police on Thursday. Authorities confirm she is now recovering well in hospital, with her family expressing immense relief and gratitude.
