A Victorian Supreme Court jury has convicted Erin Patterson of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, bringing an end to the high-profile Australian mushroom poisoning trial that has captivated the nation. The verdict, delivered on Monday, finds Patterson responsible for the deaths of her estranged husband’s parents, Don and Gail Patterson, and his aunt, Heather Wilkinson.

Patterson was also found guilty of attempting to murder Heather’s husband, Ian Wilkinson, the sole survivor of the deadly lunch in July 2023. Throughout the trial, the prosecution argued that Patterson intentionally poisoned her guests with highly toxic death cap mushrooms, despite her defence maintaining the deaths were an accidental consequence of a pantry mix-up.

The jury’s decision marks a critical development in a case that has garnered significant public and media attention due to its unusual circumstances and the shocking nature of the alleged crimes.
