Alleged Mastermind Arrested in Colombia Senator Miguel Uribe Shooting

Colombian authorities have announced the arrest of the alleged mastermind behind the assassination attempt on Senator Miguel Uribe last month. Élder José Arteaga Hernandez was detained, accused of orchestrating the attack that left the conservative senator in critical condition.
Senator Uribe was campaigning for his party’s nomination in the 2026 presidential election when he was shot twice in the head in Bogotá on June 7. Police allege Arteaga Hernandez persuaded a 15-year-old to carry out the shooting. This latest arrest follows the detention of four other individuals, including the teenage shooter.
The motive behind the attack on Senator Uribe, who continues to fight for his life, remains unclear as the investigation progresses.
