Federal immigration agents conducted a series of arrests across Southern California over the July 4th holiday weekend, detaining more than 1,600 individuals for deportation. The intensified U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations sparked immediate public outcry and widespread protests, with demonstrations continuing into Saturday, July 6th.

Among the notable incidents, ICE agents in bulletproof vests were seen at a Santa Palm Car Wash in West Hollywood on Friday, detaining two long-time workers. West Hollywood officials condemned the raids, stating that Independence Day should be a time for reflection, not “fear and persecution.” Separately, a beloved birria food vendor was detained in front of a Target on Eagle Rock Boulevard, prompting a GoFundMe campaign that quickly raised over $16,000 for legal and family support.

Protests erupted across the region. Fans of the LA Galaxy soccer team walked out during a Friday game, protesting the team owners’ silence on immigrant rights. In downtown Los Angeles, demonstrations against anti-immigration enforcement led to five arrests by the LAPD on Friday, though authorities noted most participants remained peaceful.
