Kerr County is grappling with a catastrophic flooding event, leading to confirmed deaths and multiple missing persons. The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office has declared the situation critical, with extensive emergency operations underway across the region.

The Mayor of Kerrville has issued a disaster declaration as first responders, in coordination with various local and state agencies, are actively engaged in rescue efforts and responding to a high volume of emergency calls. Authorities are withholding details on fatalities until next of kin are notified, while the search for missing individuals continues.

Impacted areas are experiencing widespread disruption. Walmart on Junction Highway and Ingram Elementary School are serving as reunification centers, while First United Methodist Church is providing shelter for displaced residents. Numerous roads, including Arcadia Loop, Thompson Drive, and Guadalupe Street, are impassable due to flooding. Nursing and assisted living homes are sheltering in place under monitoring by the Kerrville Fire Department.

The severe weather has also forced the evacuation of Camp Mystic, a girls’ camp on the Guadalupe River. Governor Greg Abbott has released a statement affirming that Texas is providing all necessary resources to the affected areas, urging residents to heed official guidance and avoid flooded roads.

Adding to the crisis, the Kerrville Public Utility Board reports widespread power outages affecting over 2,600 customers in southeast Kerrville, Center Point, and Hunt. Crews are working to restore power, but access to some areas remains impossible due to active flooding and hazardous conditions, with the Hunt Substation reportedly flooded and power lines down across rivers.

Officials are urging residents to shelter in place, avoid travel, and immediately move to higher ground if near creeks, streams, or the Guadalupe River. The entire county remains an extremely active scene, and residents are advised not to call 9-1-1 for updates.
